The AI tools landscape is vast, noisy, and deliberately confusing. Hundreds of new tools launch every month, many of them thin wrappers around the same underlying models, and most of them are marketed with claims that obscure more than they illuminate. This database exists to cut through the noise.
We catalog, categorize, and risk-rate AI tools across every major category. For each tool, we document what it does, who makes it, what it costs, and — critically — how it handles your data. The risk rating is not a quality assessment. It is a privacy and data practices assessment, because the question “Is this tool good?” matters less than the question “Is this tool safe to use with my data?”
Our risk rating methodology:
- Low Risk: Data is not used for training, strong privacy policy, SOC 2 / ISO 27001 certified, data deletion on request
- Medium Risk: Data may be used for training with opt-out, acceptable privacy practices, some data retention
- High Risk: Data used for training by default, weak privacy guarantees, significant data retention, history of privacy incidents

The prevalence of “Medium” ratings reflects an uncomfortable reality: most AI tools have data practices that are acceptable but not ideal. They collect more data than necessary, retain it longer than users expect, and reserve rights to use it in ways that may not align with user interests. Very few tools have earned a “Low” risk rating through genuinely privacy-respecting practices.
“High” risk tools are not necessarily bad tools. Some of them — particularly voice cloning and autonomous agent tools — are powerful and useful. But they either handle inherently dangerous capabilities (voice cloning can enable fraud) or have data practices that warrant serious caution.
Before adopting any AI tool, consider:
- What data are you putting in? Confidential business data, personal information, and proprietary code all require different risk tolerances.
- How is the data used? Check if the tool uses your data for model training. Opt out if possible.
- Where is the data stored? Relevant for regulatory compliance (GDPR, CCPA, sector-specific regulations).
- What happens when you leave? Can you export your data? Is it deleted?
- Who built it? Tools backed by companies with documented safety incidents warrant extra scrutiny.
